Set-up
First, I set up my Wacom tablet to make my workflow faster. Then I added a black & white filter on top of the image and started painting on a new layer.

Background:
This is a digital painting made using Adobe Photoshop. This project requires a high-level of blending mode and brushes.
Concept
This project took me about 10 hours to finish. The idea was to find an image and paint it as black and white using painting and blending tools ONLY. Any sort of selection and/or copying any part of the original image is prohibited. This allows me to master the use of brush tool, blending modes and the concept of raster-based editing.

Basic Painting
Using the brush tool to paint the base of Sheldon, which contains the highlights, mid-tones and shadows of the image.
Enhanced Painting
Using the levels of opacity, pressure points, blending mode and other skills to clear up the gaps and add more details of the painting.
Final Touches
Lastly, I’ve added textures by creating custom brushes for Sheldon’s hair, skin and shirt, to achieve the painting looks similar to the original.
