Background:
This ebook is an interactive e comic book format as ePUB. The story was created by myself, and the assets were taken from the open source webcomic series Pepper and Carrot.
The main concept of this ebook is to make an interactive ebook that children might enjoy reading. Therefore, I added simple animations and audios to capture my audiences attention, in addition to the powerful story I’ve provide. We were tasked to use Pepper and Carrot as the source of our assets and use them freely to form our own story.
The first thing I did was to read all the chapters from the original author. By doing so, I was able to understand the characterization of each individual and use that to my advantage in my own story line. I combined four episodes from the original stories to create my own story.
The first challenge was gathering all the assets necessary for my story. I used Photoshop to extract some assets by using masking, refining and color matching skills.
For the animations, I made it by using After Effects and Photoshop and exported it as GIF.
After gathering the assets, I had to carefully place them in InDesign and add the proper timing and animation using the defaults and customized animations and audios.
Lastly, I had to make the file publish ready by making sure all the buttons and inter-activities are properly working. Then I imported my work into iBooks.
